Today is November 13. Technically the middle of the month is the 15th, so it’s not the middle just yet. So I’ll say it’s almost the middle of November and we’re already in the Christmas season. ‘Tis the Season Already.
This morning I turned on my XM Satellite radio and my Love station had turned into Holly. No more love songs from generations past, it’s time for Christmas music! I was just getting into the Christmas Song by the Chipmunks when I turned the corner toward the downtown square and found the city workers installing the garland and lights for Christmas festivities. Even the weather has headed into the season with the earliest freeze in thirteen years. ‘Tis the Season. Already.
Then there are those of you that are already posting pictures on Facebook of their decorated houses. Let me just say your trees and decorations are beautiful. Now I know why some are getting off Facebook because they say they read other people’s posts and feel their lives are inferior. These folks say they don’t have the perfect life and everyone else does. After all, you saw it on FB! Last night, seeing the pictures, I suddenly felt behind! We still have Halloween up! But hey, ’tis the season already, don’t you know?
There has been much reporting over the past few days about all the stores that are getting a jump on the holiday shopping season and opening up at dinner time on Thanksgiving Day. When I first heard that, I wondered why they would choose to open up at 2:00 PM in the afternoon. After all, that’s been our dinner time. I learned the big stores where opening up at 5:00 PM. At least I’ll have time to eat some turkey and deal with my tryptophan induced nap time. I feel better now, don’t you?
‘Tis the Season Already, right? Actually, as a musician, the season started a long time ago. Christmas in July. Kick-off in September. Rehearsals each week. The season has fast been approaching over the past several months. My calendar is already filling up with concerts and parties and rehearsals and gatherings. I haven’t added into it the list and time for shopping. Mercy, it really is the season!
“Unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given, and the government shall be upon his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
So since it’s the season already, I am invoking the power of the Prince of Peace. I’m beginning my prayers for patience and peace that passes all understanding. I’m praying for the Wonderful Counselor to still my heart and strengthen my soul and make a difference today. I’m asking the Mighty God to act on my behalf and make the load lighter and the burden easy. I’m asking the Everlasting Father to gather us all in his arms and tell us it will be alright this day. With the tragedies of this world and the events of each day, I am reminded I need the strong arms of my heavenly Dad.
‘Tis the Season Already. Come quickly, Lord Jesus. Be Emmanuel, God with us.
