My Sunday Prayer

O God of Creation, Lord of heaven and earth,
God of light and darkness, Lord of the day and night.
As you were the Great I Am before time began,
Open our eyes to your greatness and your glory;
Let us grasp anew your holiness and righteousness.
So that we will once again understand our great need for you and for your grace.

In the ordinary and regular rhythms of worship in each of our churches,
Give us a glimpse of what can be,
Teach us the depth of your Spirit that we have yet to experience,
Yet to know,
Yet to understand.

Ween us off the dribbles of spiritual milk,
And give us hearty spiritual food,
The manna of your Word.
It is our lifeblood and sustaining strength.
Let us not be tossed about with half-truths and empty phrases,
But meet us in the quiet moments of our lives,
Where the Spirit meets spirit, and Wisdom whispers from the deep places.

Our Churches need this.
But more than that, we need it.
We yearn for it.
We crave it.
We cry out for it.

Hear our prayer for ourselves and for our people.
Now to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power, and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore!
Amen.
